Harriet Williams

Harriet has 20+ years’ experience of leading successful grant programmes on behalf of foundation and high net worth donors, with particular expertise in relation to climate change, forests and other land use. Formerly the director of the Leuser Ecosystem Action Fund, Harriet is also a current or previous board member of the Environmental Funders NetworkSOS-UK and Gower Street.

A passionate proponent of more effective philanthropy, Harriet has guided philanthropic investment to all types of change strategies, from grass roots activism to UN level policy campaigns. She brings a strong social justice perspective to all of her work, which also spans issues such as violence against women and homelessness. Harriet is an active ‘spare time’ campaigner in her home city of Bristol, UK, where she has founded an alliance to end the routine use of pesticides in public spaces, along with a climate action network that mobilises families with young children. 

Harriet has a first-class degree in Biology from the University of Leeds, plus a Masters in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford. She recently completed a short course on sustainable finance at the Oxford Smith School of Enterprise & Environment, and prior to the start of her philanthropic career worked as a journalist in the B2B finance publishing sector.
